It’s an expanded concept on an old idea, some say cooperatively, We say collectively.
As one of the original owners of The Marketplace 6 years ago in the Barn of the old Cape Neddick House and the original Cape Neddick post office. Jeanne Lombardi represented over 75 local artisan and small businesses. The business was thriving with lots of loyal customers, but it left little time for life and family, she chose life and family and in 2012 decided to close that business.
Missing the people involved in the Marketplace…the customers, the artists, the pickers, so many people involved in it successes. Many friendships had grown from the original Shop.
Two years later, the carriage house next door became available. A few of those people wanted to open a shop, and collectively got together.
It was so well received, that when the Barn became available again, the timing was perfect. We closed for the month of February and opened March 1, 2016 in our new expanded space. By fall our shops expanded again and now occupy both the Barn and Carriage House offering over 4500 sq ft of Retail Shops!
People are always amazed, once they get inside.
New customers are always impressed with the Shops at Cape Neddick, not only by the beauty of this renovated 200 year old Barn and Carriage House. but all the beautiful shops, each unique, and inviting.
Most of customers return, usually with someone who has never been there before. The shops is a great place to bring family and friends, and now considered a shopping destination!
